ICM SOCIAL SERVICE

SMART SACK PROGRAM

The ICM community has been a faithful partner with MANNA Food Center and MCPS to address student hunger in Montgomery County via the Smart Sack program.  This program bridges the gap between Friday and Monday, providing nutritious foods for children who are on the reduced breakfast and lunch program.  Smart Sack feed over 2,850 children in Montgomery County weekly.  Students enjoy a nutritious menu, the benefits of which indicated in the child’s ability to excel in the classroom.

MANNA Food provides the food supplies for a balanced meal for students; these supplies are packaged by a group of dedicated sisters at ICM who pick up the supplies from MANNA, pack them, and deliver them to Lake Seneca Elementary school biweekly. Currently, there are 60 students on the list who receive these packages so that they have nutritious meals over the weekend.  This program is in its 3rd year at ICM and has become a wonderful source of community building while addressing the needs of elementary school students.

Pick up and packing:  Every other Tuesday (Oct: 2, 16, 30; Nov: 13, 27; Dec: 11) 11 am in the ICM Metal Building.

Delivery to Lake Seneca ES: Every other Thursday morning

Volunteers are always welcome for both these tasks.

HAKIM SENIOR PROGRAM

The ICM Hakim Senior Program had a successful kick-off event on Sept 15, 2018 alhamdulillah.  This program is geared towards brothers and sisters who are 55+ and provides an interactive social environment for our beloved seniors.  Attendees were very pleased with the games, prizes, the “Healthy Grains” talk and the social time with each other.  Hakim meets once a month on a Saturday, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in the ICM Library.  The program includes Hadith/Quran lectures on relevant topics, activities, lunch, and salah. A healthy lunch and snack are part of the program. Future programs are being scheduled from the suggestions Hakim participants have so far provided.  We look forward to engaging with a larger group of our wise seniors as we develop this program based on their input and suggestions inshaAllah.
