Umee & Me

Umee and Me is a Mother and Child Resource Center at ICM. It is a place where mothers and their young children (0-6 yrs) come together in an Islamic learning environment.

You MUST attend AT LEAST one Orientation Play-day in order to register your child(ren) for Umee and Me, unless you have already pre-registered with a Committee Member.

About Umee and Me

Umee and Me, a mother and child resource center at the Islamic Center of Maryland, is a place that provides a safe and disciplined environment where growing children can play, learn, and explore. Each day, the center provides a core group of developmentally appropriate activities, including art mediums, blocks and building toys, dramatic play, reading material, puzzles, and manipulative toys. Mothers explore these activities with their children, honoring their creativity. Infants are provided a safe and stimulating area to rest and play. The children hear and participate in Islamic songs, stories, and games during scheduled activities, such as Circle Time, Movement Time, Clean-Up, Qur'an/Arabic lessons, and Islamic Manners.

The goal of Umee and Me is to enhance the learning experience by providing a secure and supportive environment that stimulates and fosters the social and intellectual development of our young Muslim children. By incorporating Islamic principles, we hope to build a community of families that work together for our children and our Ummah. Umee and Me also acts as a support group for Muslim women with young children. In this relaxed and informal environment, mothers have the opportunity to share ideas and receive advice and support related to parenting.
